Tips On How To Start Your Morning The Yoga Way

For thousands of years, Yoga had begun at sunrise in the morning.   This was a time for prayer, meditation and tapping into your highest potential.  This is called brahma-muhurta in Sanskrit (brah-mah moo-hoor-tah, this means "hour of brahman," with brahman being the ultimate Reality), this time sets the right tone for the entire day.  The mornings are always the best time to connect with   God and your inner self.  During Sunrise it is quiet, peaceful and still.  It allows one to come close to the Divine without interruptions.   Traditionally, the sun is celebrated as the first teacher who brought the teachings of Yoga to humanity.  To me, the sun represents (the Son of God).  According to Yoga, the sun is a symbol for the spirit.  In my life, the Son of God is the spirit.  This sun (Son) shines with undiminished brightness forever.  The sun is bright and shines upon us and gives us great warmth upon our being.  Like the Son of God who shines in our lives bringing us great happiness, joy, love and peace in our hearts, minds and spirits.

Here are some tips to start your day full of energy and greatness:
  • Create a peaceful tone in your heart and remember your connection with everyone and everything.  Do this before you get out of bed.  Closing your eyes, thank God for another day.  Pray for everyone that you desire and breath life into your being.  Set your day by speaking life, peace and happiness into your day.
  • Write down any dreams that you may have had during the night.  When you live an active life of self-transformation, dreams often carry important messages.  Most of the time if you don't write down your dreams shortly after awakening, you will forget them.
  • Affirm your highest resolve.  For example:  keep repeating throughout the day aloud or in your mind your resolution, such as "I will be happy all day."  Sometimes this can be hard at first because we are distracted by other things.  Try to take something that will remind you of your resolution, such as a button, or a ring or write it down on your memory pad and look at it during the day.
  • Before getting out of bed, consciously relax and take ten deep breaths.
  • Stretch your muscles while you're still in bed.
  • Upon getting out of bed take care of your basic hygiene needs
  • Meditation or prayer can be done during a pose or however you feel comfortable.
  • Do your daily Yoga exercises, breathing and stretch to vitalize your body and fortify your mind.
If you can't practice in the morning due to your busy schedule, try to find time during the day to and take a few minutes for your breathing and Yoga exercises.  However making a daily resolution can be done at anytime in your mind.  Remember:  You have to make time to do Yoga because it is a lifestyle change.  You have to incorporate it into your life.  It's not the easiest thing to do when you are so use to living a certain way.  However when you understand the benefits, you will make it your business to make the necessary adjustments.  Be motivated and decide that you are going to take the challenge.  Gradually you will see the difference in your body, mind and spirit.
